Ok, here in Singapore right now. So here is my take. Hawker food centers.. nope. The Chinese rice is horrible, and I have tried 3 different places. Luke warm boiled chicken with some broth and bad rice. Satay is good once or twice. I recommend Little India, Chinatown, Clarke Quay, and even Marina Bay Sands mall. The hawker centers are cheap for a reason. Small restaurants cost about $30 USD for a meal for two. Heat and humidity are strong, but less than Miami in the summer. Singapore just opened to the public two months ago, so no big crowds so avoid the "Skip the Line" crap and just buy Tix for savings difference, not priority. To travel, get a 3 day tourist pass which is unlimited, cost $20 USD with a $10 USD refundable deposit. Definitely the best way to get around, is cool, and about the only place they don't (can't) smoke. Also, if you don't like cigarette smoke, you won't like it here. They smoke more than the French, and just about everywhere. I do recommend visiting once, but not a recurring vacation spot.

One misconception about Singapore is that chewing gums is illegal in Singapore; it is actual legal to chew gum there, but you can't sell it. So if you happen to pack some gum for your own use, it's perfectly fine.

the quoted price for food and hotels were far outdated. Currently prices has gone up, at least 30% – 100%, especially apartment accomodation cost amd eating at cheap + middle class eatery spots

Sir Stamford Raffles wasn't the founder of Singapore. He was the father of British colonisers in Singapore (not saying it's good or bad, but just stating a fact). He came, struck a deal with the representative of the Sultan of the declining Malay Johor-Riau empire (with the backing of armed British ships), and made Singapore a British trading post that caused an influx of immigrants that built modern Singapore, such as Chinese and Indian merchants, traders and coolies into Singapore (amongst others).
